Blake House and Dr Gwynne Trust League of Friends
Charity no : 1072102
The Blake House League of Friends merged with the Dr Gwynne Memorial Trust in 2020, both
charities having the same objectives, and following the closure of the Dr Gwynne Memorial
Trust.
We aim to raise funds to support Blake House Surgery and provide items required which
would not be funded by the NHS. In 2018-19 our major fund-raising event was to provide a
lift for use by patients at the surgery and due to the amazing response this was achieved and
the lift is now installed.
We also offer assistance with medical research and study grants for local young people
wishing to follow a career in healthcare.
We are able to provide transport for patients to the surgery and hospital for appointments
by our Volunteer Car Transport Service which is run by Shirley Jones. A mileage charge is
payable by the patient to the volunteer driver. All drivers have been thoroughly DBR
checked and we are always looking for local people to join this worthwhile volunteer role.
As well as taking patients for appointments, we can also collect and deliver prescriptions
under the same arrangements. If you would like more information please contact Shirley on
07377 289986 Monday - Friday and leave a message and she will return your call.
We welcome everyone to our meetings which are usually held about every 3 months in the
Black Torrington Village Hall. Advance notice of these meetings is widely publicised. (Meetings currently suspended due to Covid)
